The Bizarre Files #1 : La Crypte

Built in 1870 in order to cope with the increasing population growth, the crypt of Laeken (Brussels) became the biggest underground cemetery in Belgium. With its unique neo-classical & Art-deco style and its more than 1km of tunnels, it offered à final resting place to more than 4000 of the richest people in Belgium’s capital. Unfortunately, water and à changing population transformed this, once majestic, burial place into à decaying piece of history. To dangerous to visit, it got closed down, awaiting restoration. It’s only recent that it has been opened again for the public and it’s worth the trip when you are visiting Brussels.
