WW2 SHELTERS – Once Abandoned Places UK

WW2 SHELTERS – Once Abandoned Places UK.

The Stockport Chestergate Air Raid Shelters / Tunnels are a system of almost 1 mile dug into the Red Sandstone Rock under Stockport in Cheshire.

We Explored the Chestergate Shelters / Tunnels which are open to the Public and give an insight into what the conditions would have been like when the threat of Air Raids by the German Luftwaffe was imminent.

The Shelters / Tunnels started in September 1938 and opened in October 1939. Stockport was first bombed by the Germans in October 1940.

The Shelters / Tunnels could accommodate 6500 Adults and Children at any one time.
