Abandoned soviet army base





Territory of former USSR army base in Latvia. This place used to be Baltic strategical oil reserves for army necessities in soviet times.

In 1950, land in Kraslava district, “Borovka” was allocated for the needs of soviet army. 11 separated objects on area of 237.2ha. The Army Base was built as the Baltic Sea Region Strategic Reserve Oil Base with a capacity of 600 000 t.

Most buildings and objects have survived to this day. The territory includes underground bunkers, oil tanks, hangars, railway infrastructure, farm buildings and administrative buildings. There are still many materials in the premises from the Soviet times, both in the form of documents and in various subjects.

Although the former KGB employee S.Generalovs in 1993, as General Director of SIA Latgales Nafta, took over the strategic assets of Kraslava district Borovka from the Russian Army, all objects and buildings appear to be lost in the face.
